Bike fit FAQ

Everything you need to know about getting a professional bike fit in Altea, Costa Blanca: what happens, how long it takes, what it costs and how to book.

About bike fitting

What is a bike fit?

A bike fit adjusts your bike to your body, rather than your body to the bike. We look at saddle height and setback, reach, handlebar position and cleats, and how you move while pedalling. The goal is a position that is comfortable, efficient and powerful, and that reduces the risk of overuse injuries.

Do I need a bike fit if I don't race?

Yes. Most of our clients are not racing for titles. Comfort matters for everyone: a good position means fewer aches, more enjoyment and more energy for long days in the mountains. Performance and aerodynamics are a bonus.

Which bikes do you fit?

We fit road, gravel, cyclocross, mountain bikes and TT/triathlon bikes. You can book one bike, or two bikes for the same rider in one session.

What is Retül 3D?

Retül is a 3D motion capture system. Small markers are placed on your joints while you ride on a trainer, and the system measures your angles and movement in three dimensions. It shows exactly how you move on the bike, so every adjustment is based on measurements rather than guesswork. Read more about our 3D analysis.

What is Leomo?

Leomo uses motion sensors worn on the body to measure how you move while pedalling, for example how stable your pelvis is and how your legs track. Combined with Retül, it gives a complete picture of your technique and position.

Can a bike fit help with knee, back or neck pain?

Many common aches on the bike, such as knee pain, lower back pain, a sore neck or numb hands and feet, are linked to position or cleat set-up, and a fit often helps. We go through your history and any discomfort at the start of the session. For persistent pain or injuries we recommend that you also see a medical professional.

Your appointment

What happens during a bike fit?

We start with an interview about your goals, riding and any discomfort, and assess your flexibility, asymmetries and physiology. Then we set up your cleats, analyse you in 3D while you ride on a trainer, make adjustments and analyse again. Afterwards you receive a report by email with what we did and all the measurements for your bike.

How long does a bike fit take?

A fit for one bike takes about two hours. A fit for two bikes, for the same rider in one session, takes about three hours.

What should I bring?

Bring your bike, your cycling shoes with cleats, the shorts and jersey you normally ride in, and your pedals if they are not already on the bike. If you have had injuries or a previous bike fit, bring any relevant information.

Who will do my bike fit?

Your fit is done by Are Iversen, an IBFI Level 3 certified bike fitter who has been fitting riders since 2012, from beginners to World and Olympic champions. Read more about our experience.

What do I get after the fit?

You receive a written report by email with what was done during the fit, any recommended exercises, and all the measurements needed to set up your bike. You can use it to set up a new bike, a rental bike or your bike at home the same way.

How often should I get a new bike fit?

We recommend a new fit when you change bikes, shoes or cleats, after an injury, if your flexibility or riding changes a lot, or if new discomfort appears. Many riders also come back every one to two years.
